The Playbook on One Page¶
Owner: Director
Everything in Petra serves one sentence:
Encourage the congregation to sing.
Petra settles the mundane — schedules, charts, patches, slides — so artists and tech are free to lead worship. When a page and that sentence conflict on artistic or preference grounds, the sentence wins. Safety, protection, and licensing pages are never optional.
The service gives people a chance to attend to Someone besides themselves. It may be a distraction from the world; it must never be a distraction from God — and it is not about the people on the platform.
Five habits that make it work¶
- Sunday starts midweek. Personal practice before rehearsal; group rehearsal before the service.
- No prior rehearsal → no serve (default). Accepting a slot includes the rehearsal tied to it — band, vocals, and tech alike.
- Rehearse the way we serve. House lyrics and confidence monitors run at midweek rehearsal, not only Sunday.
- One plan, published early. The Song Selector publishes the proposed set by the weekly deadline; it is fixed when the Director confirms (silence by the confirm-by time counts). The Worship Lead publishes keys, forms, and charts by the charts deadline. Everyone prepares from that plan. Clocks live in Our Congregation.
- Eyes up. Confidence monitors are the default; music stands are the exception.
Every role in one line¶
| Role | In one line |
|---|---|
| Director | Owns the ministry under the pastor; appoints the team leads; accountable for the congregation’s worship |
| Worship Lead | Owns how it is played — keys, forms, charts, rehearsal |
| Song Selector | Chooses what we sing and why; hands the set to the Worship Lead |
| Vocalist | Leads congregational melody with blend and presence |
| Band musician | Rhythmic and harmonic foundation that serves the song |
| Tech Lead | Owns production standards and tech roster health |
| FOH Engineer | The congregation’s mix — lead vocal and lyric first |
| Monitor Engineer | What the stage hears, without wrecking stage volume |
| Media / Lyrics | Right words on the right screens at the right time |
| Lighting | Focus and mood without distraction |
| Stream / Broadcast | A stable, clear online service |
| Stage / Logistics | A safe, ready platform — plots, cables, spares |
One person may wear several hats in a week; each hat’s must-dos still apply.
The week at a glance¶
- Set proposed by the weekly deadline (Song Selector) → confirmed (Director) → keys, forms, charts published by the charts deadline (Worship Lead)
- Midweek rehearsal — everyone serving Sunday, full production path (house + confidence live)
- Fixes land before Sunday — charts, decks, cues, gear
- Pre-service run-through confirms readiness; freeze (default: doors) ends experiments
- Service — the room sings; tech stays invisible
- Strike + notes — people first, then process
When something breaks¶
People safety first; preserve the moment second; communicate once on a known channel. See incidents & contingencies.
Finding anything else¶
The Petra home page routes by need; every folder’s README.md lists its pages. Two-page handouts for musicians, tech, the Song Selector, and pastors live in Quick Reference.
