Vocalist

Owner: Worship Lead / Director

Purpose

Lead and support congregational singing with clear melody, blend, and pastoral presence.

Expectations

  • Learn melody and assigned parts before group rehearsal
  • Attend the prior group rehearsal for any service you are scheduled to serve (see Rehearsal Standards)
  • Arrive at call time warmed up enough to be useful
  • Use the published key and form; flag range issues early (not at downbeat)
  • Blend over belting; serve the lyric and the lead
  • Mind mic technique and stage presence (engaged, not performative distraction)
  • Follow Worship Lead cues for entries, holds, and endings
  • Eyes up: default to confidence monitors (video monitors) for lyrics — not a music stand — unless cleared (Lyrics & Stage Displays)

Preparation checklist

  • Listen to reference at set key
  • Mark breaths, unison vs harmony, and any descant moments
  • Note ad-libs: only where planned or clearly opened by the Worship Lead / Platform lead
  • Wardrobe per team guidelines
  • Prior rehearsal on the calendar; conflicts flagged early

On stage

  • Be present to God and the room; do not perform emotion you are not carrying. Watch the Platform lead
  • Use confidence monitors; stay present to the room
  • Hold still through prayers and scripture unless directed
  • If you lose a line, mute / pull back — do not invent loudly
