Director

Owner: Pastoral oversight

Purpose

Carry general ownership of the congregation's musical worship — spiritual and operational — under the direction of the pastor, so the team is healthy, prepared, and aligned with the church.

Line of authority: Pastor → Director → team leads (Worship Lead, Song Selector, Tech Lead). The pastor has final say; responsibility and accountability for the congregation’s worship and the team’s health rest with the Director.

Owns

  • Vision, values, and Petra policy approval
  • Team culture, discipline, and pastoral care pathway
  • Appointing and developing the team leads — Worship Lead, Song Selector, Tech Lead — and section leads (pastor consulted)
  • Service planning standards and final accountability for Sunday readiness
  • Confirming the weekly set the Song Selector proposes (silence by the confirm-by time = confirmed); final accountability for song diet / set direction
  • Does not conduct from the floor on Sunday unless pre-agreed — musical calls during the service belong to the Worship Lead
  • Coordination with pastors, production, and other ministries
  • Seasonal calendar (series, special services, retreats)

Does not own alone

  • Every mix decision (Tech Lead / FOH)
  • Every musical arrangement choice mid-rehearsal (Worship Lead)
  • Every title pick when a Song Selector is appointed (they propose; Director still covers)
  • Church-wide HR or facilities master policy

Weekly rhythm (typical)

  • Confirm upcoming rosters and gaps
  • Review setlists/order of service with Song Selector, Worship Lead, and service planner
  • Touch base with Tech Lead on anything unusual (guests, tracks, specials)
  • Post-service notes: people first, then process

Success looks like

Team knows the plan early; conflicts are handled cleanly; Sunday feels shepherded, not scrambled; the congregation sings.
